Darting birds

Here are a handful of darting birds for the October block lotto over on about.com - I had a very brief window of time today when a gap in my schedule happened to coincidence with a time when the decorator wasn't here painting, so I could actually get into my sewing room - it was only about an hour, but that was enough time to knock up these darting birds blocks - black and white prints on a sky blue background - very effective, aren't they? And on the right, four more cracker blocks from the September lotto, these from Wanda. Got almost all of them now - when they are all in, I will put them together into a baby quilt.

Busy day tomorrow (and Friday) so perhaps not much blogging, though I will be out in Kingston tomorrow, where there are several of my type of shops - a fabric shop and a bead shop, not to mention the hab. dept at John Lewis...

What an effective block. Those darting birds are really nice. Also I'm anxious to see the baby quilt finished.

I remember JLP K on T so well but have never seen it trading - in a former life pre children JLP were my second largest account and I sold the chiller and freezer cabinets to them for this store in the Waitrose part - just a little bit of trivia, did you know when they built the store that the road goes right through the middle of it and it was engineered so cleverly that if the store is ever demolished the road will still remain - fascinating stuff for a quilting blog eh? :o)))

Sometimes we see Darting Birds quilt blocks arranged in groups of four to resemble a flock of birds in flight. I think that's a good look, but felt like trying single blocks flying upwards. The result a Darting Birds quilt pattern that makes a crib sized quilt with twelve traditional blocks placed on point and surrounded by setting squares and triangles. The neutral background lets the birds stand out and gives the quilt a light and airy appearance. Quilt blocks finish at 6 square and the quilt measures 35 x 43-1/2.

Fascinating info about the JL building - there is so much odd bits of knowledge out there.

With the box swop, I wasn't sure whether I could take out those two items, given that no-one else had seen them yet. You obviously have very good taste :-)

I've not come across that bird block before, it's great. As you said looks very effective in that colour combination.
