Here's the slightly odd little piece I made for this swap myself. I used some squares of linen I bought (I think) in a charm pack at the V&A shop, though I might be misremembering that. It's gone off to a new home with my friend Julie, who organises the Cotton Robin round robin I've been blogging recently. It's a small (quilting) world.

Transit of Mercury (not my work)
So, here's the quilt I received myself in the recent swap which I organised (Another Little Quilt Swap 10). It was made by the lovely Andrea in Australia, who has played in a number of rounds of the swap, and I'm very happy with it. Tomorrow, I'll dig out a photo of the quilt which I made for the swap...

Secret Sewing
It's always annoying when you have a day's worth of sewing, but you can't show it. Here's a bit of a sneak peek. More later, someday!

Another Little Quilt Swap - Round 9 Finished
Another round of my little quilt swap is finished, so I can show both what I put into the swap this year (below - this is actually an older piece, which fit the size requirements) and what I received (above, made by Mary J, who has no blog, so I can't link to other examples of her lovely work).
If you want to see the full Grand Reveal - all the quilts made and where they went to live - you can find it on the ALQS blog...

ALQS 9
Many readers here will know I run a little quilt swap once a year or so. The current round has now finished and all quilts are home safely with their new owners (none lost or severely delayed this year - woo hoo!). Above is the piece I put into the swap; if you want to see what everyone else made and received, The Grand Reveal is now up on the swap blog...

Another Another Little Quilt Swap
Announcing... Another Little Quilt Swap, Round 9 (yes, 9. I can't believe it, either) Visit the ALQS blog for lots more info.
Quick details:
Deadline for Photos: Tuesday, 7th April 2015
In a nutshell: a no-signup/no preassigned partners swap. Once your quilt is completed you will be enterred into the swap; you may then nominate a list of quilts you'd like to receive from the finished pool after the deadline has passed.
Size Requirements: total perimeter between 48" and 80" (approx 120cm and 200cm). Any shape ok. Single quilt, pair or triptych ok as long as total perimeter falls in range.
Style: Open
Materials: Any, but must include at least some fabric.
Techniques: Any, but must involve three layers, as in the traditional definition of "quilt" (see full rules for more details if necessary)
How to play: send an expression of interest to me by email with ALQS9 in the subject line. This is not a committment; you will not be official enrolled in the swap until you send photos of your finished quilt

Check out the ALQS9 Rules page in the sidebar for more details

Another Little Quilt
A little while back, I showed the quilt I made for round 8 of the Another Little Quilt Swap; this is the quilt I received - isn't it fun? It's a bit more purple in real life, but purples are always hard to photograph...

Another little quilt swap quilt
Now that the quilts are all assigned and have been mailed (and many received) in the latest round of the ALQS, I can show what I made for this round of the swap - a little blue and yellow geometric piece.
It's always fun to play around with something a little different for these swaps...

ALQS7 Grand Reveal
Well, I have finally got around to doing the Grand Reveal of who made what in the ALQS7, so I can actually go ahead and show the quilt I myself made for the swap - it was this little piece called Three Mother Goddesses. The piece is 12x12" and uses a piece of discharged fabric for the background, with other hand-dyed fabrics used for the other parts of the quilt. In the end, it went to New Zealand to a new home - I hope Jan is enjoying it!
This piece was inspired by a little fragment in the Museum at the Roman Baths, when I went there this past summer:
It was only small - several inches high - but it really caught my eye. It was described as Three Mother Goddesses, hence the name of my own piece.
A detail of the quilting.

New quilts!
Two more quilts to add to my in-home gallery - this piece, called Runaway Chairs, was my prize from the ALQS6 - it was made by Di and it really tickled my fancy when I first saw it. As a friend said "because if chairs were going to run away, the first place they'd go, is a tree..."
This little piece also arrived as a result of the ALQS6, but it's not one I swapped for, it's a lovely hostess present from Susan - above and beyond the call of duty, really, but who am I to say no to a quilty gift? It looks lovely in my kitchen, while Chairs will go upstairs somewhere - not sure where just yet, but I will find room.

ALQS swap quilts
Another in my series of posts about the quilts I own from swaps I have taken part in. These are all the quilts I have as a result of my own swap series, Another Little Quilt Swap. The quilt above is from the first round of the swap, though I actually didn't receive it until much later - it was made by Sophie and it hangs on my bedroom door (the outside - the side that faces into the hallway). The quilt that I made for this swap can be seen here. This swap was run in a different way to my recent rounds of the ALQS - for this round (and round 2) partners were assigned in advance so you knew who your partner would be and knew a little about their tastes (you didn't know who was making a quilt FOR you, though).
This pieces, which is one of three, is what I received in round 2 of the ALQS. My partner got a little carried away. Which is fine with me, as I adore them. They are hard to photograph, as they hang in my stairwell, but the original posting I did when I received them shows them in somewhat better light... These were made by Lynda and have travelled the world to be on display before they came to live with me. They're famous!
The quilt I made for my own partner in this swap was something a little smaller and simpler, though she did like it - it can be seen over here - the purple and lime green piece at the bottom of the post.
For the third round, I changed the way the structure worked. Because I had a number of problems in the second round with people not finishing quilts when they were meant to and other issues, I decided to take a leaf out of the book of a group I used to belong to called QuiltSwap, where you had to submit pictures of your finished work to a gallery and only once you had shown a finished quilt were you eligible to choose one for yourself. This has a twofold advantage - no one is left without a quilt if they have made one themself, also the quilt you receive is generally to your taste as you have put it on a list of quilts you wouldn't mind owning!
This quilt above, which was made by the lovely Lisa in Australia, came to live with me, and hangs on the back of the door to my small toilet room (this room has quilts all over the walls). The quilt I made for round 3 was a bit more modern in style and can be seen on the ALQS blog, here.
In round 4, I managed to have time to make two quilts, which means I received two quilts in return. This one from Joan also hangs in my toilet room, while the other, from Jessica, hangs on the outside of the door to that room. My two quilts for this swap can be seen here and here.
In the 5th round of the swap, things were a little different in that we made journal sized quilts - A4 (piece of copier paper sized). Again, I managed to make two quilts for the swap, a wholecloth piece made from a piece of complex cloth and a modern looking, pieced quilt.
In return I received this lovely tree from Vreni in Singapore, which hangs in my dining room,
and this simple but highly effective piece from Peggy, which is in my sewing room with most of my very small swap quilts.
And the current round - round 6 - although I haven't yet received my quilt, it's on the way, and I know it will be this one. The quilt I made is of course the brightly coloured shapes on black squares I've been working on recently.
You can see why I keep hosting these things - look at all the treasures I've received over the years!

Black & White & Bright
You may remember yesterday I said I had cut out 144, 2.5" black and black and white squares - well, this is what they were for - first I sewed them into a background (see below) and then I added some rather random shapes in different bright hand-dyes on top. The shapes are just fused at the moment, but I'll sew them down during the quilting process, so they'll stay stuck. The piece is (in case you don't want to do the maths) 24" square and will be for a swap.
