Quilt back from the longarmer

So, here's a quilt top which has been knocking about for a while. I finally got around to passing it to my longarmer friend for quilting and...ta da!  Doesn't it look pretty?  Now I just need to bind it. When I have some time, ha ha.

Autumnal Wedding Quilt

Finally got the binding on this quilt - the friend who its for is getting married this week, but Geoff is away in Lisbon, so won't see her until after that. Shame he's away; we could have gone to the wedding. But anyway, I'm sure she won't mind getting the quilt after the wedding...

My longarmer just happened to have a pattern with pumpkins and leaves, which suited this one perfectly.

Stained Glass Quilt

Here's another recent finish (well, not quite finished yet - I do have to sew the binding on). This top has been together for a while, but I finally took it to my friend who is a longarm quilter (Lana at Bewitching Stitching) and she suggested we put it in Sandown Quilt Show, so she quilted it straight away and now I just have to stitch the binding down. Hopefully, I'll remember to take another photo of it hanging at the show.

Scrappy Stars

A quilt which has been waiting to be quilted for a long time - but decided that it would make a good gift for a friend who got married a while back. Now I just need to get some binding on it...

Backing ready to go

Very exciting sewing - a backing seamed together ready to go with a quilt to the longarmer. This will be a wedding present for a friend getting married this summer. Ok, not the most exciting bit of sewing ever - putting backing together - but an essential step towards a finished product. And the backing fabric is great.

Scary moment

So, I got the Christmas Tree Skirt back from the longarmer, and it looks lovely (better photo of it later, once it's been gifted), but of course, being a tree skirt, it needed a hole in it so it could go around the tree. How scary is it to cut right down the middle of a beautifully quilted quilt?  Very, let me tell you.  Now, on to the binding!

A quick longarm job...

Ok, not so much. Lana (my longarm friend, who is Bewitching Stitching) and I reckon she's had this one in her cupboard for about two years.  But because she is local and we are friends, what I do is take her a pile of non-urgent stuff, to be spaced out over a number of months. And then, what I frequently do is bring her other stuff which has to be finished to deadlines in between, so the backup stuff gets shoved to the bottom of the pile. Anyway. This top is ancient and that was before it sat at her house for two years. But now, it's quilted And if I put some binding on it, it will make an excellent present for someone, on some occasion.

Woodland Baby Quilt, quilted

Decided in the end not to quilt this myself, as it was a little larger than I had originally thought it was going to be, so I had my lovely longarm friend Lana (Bewitching Stitching) do it for me, and it looks great. (Close up of the quilting below.)  Going to try to get binding on it tomorrow so I can stitch it down later in the week; we'll see how that goes as I want to do scrappy binding and Lana mentioned seeing online a technique for doing continuous bias binding using scraps (I usually do French fold), and I may check that out. Watch this space!

...and here it is, in all its glory!  Now appropriately gifted (slightly before the actual 18th birthday, but they were all getting together today), so I can blog it. One more to go.

A quilt back from the longarmer

Perhaps draped artfully across a chair doesn't really show it to its best, but the weather wasn't good enough to lay it outside and it was too big for the particular bit of floor I had available. I'll do a proper photo of it when I get some binding on. Eventually.

French Braid, Longarmed

Got this one back from the longarmer...wow!  Works really well; the pattern really suits it. If I can get my act together, I might put this one into a quilt show (Hever, the QGBI Region 2 Show, which is not competitive) as I think it's really striking.

Shabby Chic...quilted

Got this quilt back from the longarmer (Bewitching Stitching) recently and haven't showed it yet - it's a nice large lap size; not sure if it will go as a gift yet or be kept for myself. For the moment, it will go in my pile of quilts which need binding, but hopefully that will be temporary.

Becky's Quilt

Well, now that it's been given to the person it's for, I can show this again (finished, this time) - it actually looks a lot nicer in person - it's that whole purple thing... This is for one of Sarah's best friends - there is a small group of them and they are all always envious of Sarah's quilts when she goes on sleepovers, so we are gradually gifting them with quilts. I should have done it as 18th birthday presents for them all, but didn't think of that until we'd already sorted out Becky's for this year. The others will all be next year, though - all of them have birthdays in a little cluster from the end of January to the middle of March, so no one else is getting one this year!

Quilted, Ready to bind

This came back from the longarmer a little while ago, and now needs to have binding attached so that it can be finished and given to someone as a gift... Yes, there's a specific person in mind, but I'm not saying who until it's done and given.

Hard to see the quilting on the very busy front, but here's a little glimpse of it...

Ready for quilting

Not much stitching today, but I did seam a backing for this quilt, which is going to be quilted up as a present for one of Sarah's friends.  Here's a really bad photo of the quilt top (the colours in the top photo are much truer) - which was done with a layer cake, quite a while ago. Better photos once it's quilted (which will be pretty soon - watch this space).

Rainbow Quilt

...is now quilted. Now it only (only. ha.) needs a binding attached and stitched down. Maybe it will actually get done soon. Maybe not.

It ain't easy being green...

Back from the longarmer, another finished quilt (well, except for the binding - it will join my other one (ok, two) quilts still needing binding...  But it looks great!

This is a great pattern, which I love - it's Peaches and Dreams from Judy Laquidara.  I've made it a few times now - and will probably make it again!

California Courthouse

...so called because the fabrics were purchased in California, when I went for my dad's funeral (more than 5 years ago, now). And it's a Courthouse Steps pattern, of course. 

quilted by my friendly longarmer, Lana Dragicevich, in a lovely gold metallic thread, which doesn't show nearly as well here as it does in person. Someday, it may even get a binding. Ha.

Back from the longarmer

After many years of sitting around at my house (and at the longarmer's - she's a friend, so in addition to quilts which need to be done for specific reasons, I always have a few hanging out at her house which can be done in slow periods) this quilt I made for myself using some squares from my Dad's Hawaiian shirts is finally quilted. 

I still have to attach and stitch down the binding, but given that it's only been a top for about 5.5 years, I reckon I can take a month or two to get the binding on!
