I mentioned to a friend recently that the best way to get rid of excess strips is good old strip blocks - these are foundation pieced (always best when working diagonally), and there are 14 of them, partly because that's how much I had of the foundation fabric, and partly because I figured I could get away with setting them on point. Of course, there are still strips in the bag, but it's only about halfway full now...

if the postage rates weren't ridiculous, I would send you a big box of strips! I like the way they look but don't like making them... maybe I could send it by slow boat?
Strings! Love them!
I love those strips!
This is my favorite way to use up strips, too, and there are lots of design possibilities. Use a unifying strip throughout? A special color/fabric in each? Big blocks? Small blocks? Or just scrappy? I haven't used fabric for my foundations, though. I just use telephone books pages. Readily available and the paper comes off very easily and quickly.
I've been enjoying lurking around your blog off and on for a couple years now... I've been making the strip quilt blocks as my fill in sewing. I'm gathering my blocks to make a queen size quilt...(my on blocks are 5x5 inch foundations)and I have 240 some now. I need 300 some. I'm getting there. It does clean out the scrap basket (if only I didn't keep filling it up!). Have fun! Oh, and I've also seen where people have used old/ugly fabrics for their foundations too. Great way to rid yourself of any ugly stuff.
Jean, don't know if you will see this or not, but I can't reply directly as your settings are to no-reply... Anyway, I've used ugly fabrics before for foundations - it's an excellent way to get rid of unwanted stuff, but my stash is fairly free of uglies these days - or at least, free of pieces large enough to work as foundations. Your project sounds great - it takes a heck of a lot of 5" blocks to make a big bed quilt, doesn't it!
That's going to look fantastic!
