ATC Tuesday

Here are four cards made for a "Tissue Box Background" swap - all the backgrounds of the cards had to be cut from decorative tissue boxes. There are no shortage of them out there, so it wasn't too tough. I used the tissue boxes for backgrounds, and most of the rest of the items came from a little box of bits which I keep on my worktable -usually things I've got out then not used for a different card, or which people have sent me in the post along with a swap, etc. A few things were dug out of my stash, but mostly, I worked from that one source.

Revisiting my Journal Quilt Project, week 28

Well, when I mentioned being with my friend Cathi last week, apparently we were at her house in Ireland, as shown clearly in the subsequent week's journal quilt. Also made at her place in Ireland, apparently on the last day there. This one has a bit of an Irish theme. I have used some of Cathi's fabrics, along with some lace and trim from my scrap bag, as well as a picture of the Rock of Cashel and a feather collected by my DS (who is obsessed with feathers) - and some wild cotton grass from our walk up to the Portroe Millennium Cross. The seashells are actually from a previous visit - collected on a beach somewhere, can't remember precisely, but they seemed apt.

ATC Friday

A few more sets of round robin cards where I was the second player. Love this surreal twist on a fish & river type card.

And this Autumnal card arose out of a suggested theme of "summer's end"

More cards for a Pick-a-Theme swap, which means instead of 4 or 5 cards on one theme, you make 4 or 5 cards each to a single theme.  Here I have a butterfly card,

a hummingbird card,

a card with an Ireland theme

and a card with a Found Poetry theme.

Revisiting my Journal Quilt Project, week 27

This quilt was made while I was on holiday with my friend Cathi - not sure if we were at hers or mine, but it doesn't matter. Apparently, we took a break from the kids - according to my notes, they were playing some complicated game involving 3 dozen My Little Ponies at the time.

I used African shwe shwe fabrics, some orange and yellow tie-dye type fabric and some  orange and yellow yarn. Plus apparently, a polymer clay face and some beads.

Cotton Robin Sneak Peak

You won't be able to tell anything from this picture - but I worked on a second border for a round robin quilt swap. These are the offcuts when I was done!

ATC Friday

More round robin ATCs - these are ones where I was the second person to work on a card. I get a background/starter and then add something and send it to someone else.  Sometimes the backgrounds are pretty free-form, like this one:

I added a slice of blood orange; it seemed perfect.

Sometimes there's more to the card already, like these butterflies, so the direction to take seems more obvious.

With these I thought I didn't want to add too much, as I wanted to leave space for the third person to do something with them, so I only added a couple of stripes of tape.

These cards were made as part of a Pick-a-Theme swap: each player asks for cards on a specific theme. In this case, it was further complicated by being a swap for APCs (Altered Playing Cards), so they also requested the suit and number of the card.

The Jimmy Stewart card was for a Classic Film Actors theme.

This was for a Juana Inez de la Cruz theme. She was new to me; it was fun to learn about her.

This one was a Jules Verne theme (no film tie-ins, just the books)

And finally, a Hayao Miyazaki theme. We're into all things Studio Ghibli here, so this wasn't too tough for me.

Revisiting my Journal Quilt Project, week 26

This week's journal quilt was inspired by a mini-quilt that I made in the same week - it wasn't identical or anything, but the theme was similar. A nice fresh bowl of spring flowers. And it's halfway through the year - week 26!

Two sets of round robin ATCs where I was the first person to do something with the card - these are the finished cards, and what it looked like when I started it.  Two other people add to these after I start them.

These cards were from a swap I joined called "Inspirational Paint Chips" swap - the idea was to use a paint chip, with title of paint showing, an an inspirational quote which matched.

Revisiting my Journal Quilt Project, week 25

What is it about photographing things that are purple, that makes them never come out quite right? I tried this in three different lights, and this is the closest, but it's still not right... Anyway, this is my journal quilt for the week - the background is apiece that I monoprinted earlier in the week, and I have added purple cord couched down, following (loosely) the designs in the printing, except in the pink part in the upper right corner, where I have added bright pink roving. A few faces and a word as accents, and that was enough, I decided. Sometimes less is more, right?

ATC Friday

A couple of sets here where I was the second person to add some detail. All I did with these was to add a big flower - it's hard sometimes to leave enough space for a third player.

This one was easier, as there was a lot of empty space to work with!

ATC Tuesday

These four dragonfly cards were part of a pick-a-theme swap but everyone in my group ended up going with dragonflies as a theme - long story. Anyway, I went to each player profile and tried to find what they liked so I could make them a more personal dragonfly. It was kind of fun.
