Among the decorations for the first of December is the foundation pieced advent calendar. I made this a number of years ago, when I had lots of energy - all the little pieces are only about 3.5" square, so some of the piecing is really tiny. We love this because every year it's a little different - there are traditions in the house about what we put up, to some extent. For instance, the picture of the Christmas tree always goes up on the day we decorate the tree and the picture of either the gingerbread man or the candy cane goes up the day we do Christmas baking. We also save the Baby Jesus for Christmas day as well, despite not being a particularly religious family - it just seems appropriate. But there is a lot of flexibility in how the rest go up, so it's fun to take turns to choose...
